Once Flurry is fully-unlocked, that becomes the case: 5 averaged chances to get a critical hit become an average of 7. You accept that when a weapon has a proc that WF is better. When Cloth casters start wanding, it’s not because they want to avoid overkill it’s because they’re trying to manage their mana but this can and often does backfire because of the risk of the mob running.

If WF procs as the last-hit on an enemy, the overkill does not matter any more than overkill on any other ability and mana has sweet F all to do with it. RB produces so much threat per hit, it’s gauranteed to pull aggro off the tank within that same time-frame were it to be used two Shaman using WF and RB would need to wait before beginning DPS. If someone assumes their first hit might proc WF(and they always should), they should wait until they are sure a first-hit WF will not over-take the tank. Whether it’s due to the fight lasting longer or the player deciding to make-up for the lack of burst by using SS + Shocks more often, it doesn’t matter because it will even out if you’re not playing like a fool. Why would you need to eat and drink because WF didn’t proc as opposed to whether it did? I’d say ‘don’t answer, that’s rhetorical’ but I already know you won’t. You only ‘understood’ that bit because that gave you something to talk about, without having to mention the daft comparison of mana and Rogue energy in regards to Windfury or explain your weird mixing-up of completely different things. Last but not least, you could argue that Frostbrand is good vs opponents that run away, however Frostbrand’s unreliability makes it bad for this purpose. If the above applies but your opponent is also immune to fire, then Frostbrand is better. If your opponent has high armor or is higher level than you, then Flametongue is better.

(Taran Icebreaker is an excellent example for a good WF weapon that is both fast and has a proc) If your weapon has a proc, then WF is better again. If your weapon is a fast 2H or a 1H + shield, then WF is better. If your weapon is a slow 2H, then Rockbiter is better. If it doesn’t proc at all, then congratulations - you now have to eat & drink because you wanted to see big numbers. If it procs anywhere near 20%, then it’s an overkill and using any other weapon enhancement would’ve been better. If it procs in the beginning, then good (unless you’re in a dungeon, because you’ll take aggro). Windfury, on the other hand, may or may not proc for the entire fight. Every 6 seconds you can reliably use Backstab, and the only time it’s going to be an overkill is when the mob dies. This is the only part of your post which I understood, so I’m only going to address it.īackstab costs 60 energy, getting 60 energy requires 6 seconds. PS - I will also repeat the above-mentioned detail that Rockbiter’s extra threat should not be forgotten and so Rockbiter should never be used in dungeons, unless you’re tanking.īut we’re talking about Windfury which is a weapon-proc I hope that more shamans read this thread because the number of times I’ve seen Corpsemaker shamans with WF is depressing. Imagine getting a WF proc, only to see that both extra attacks are glancing… If you’re fighting mobs with high armor or higher level than you, then Flametongue beats both WF and Rockbiter easily because its fire damage on hit ignores armor and cannot be glancing. I think this is the place to also mention Flametongue. The faster but smaller hits will ensure more consistent WF procs and less overkill, which means more efficiency.

WF can be considered if you’re using a 1H + shield or a fast 2H (especially one with a proc). RB is a flat AP boost that is always there for you and is never an overkill. WF may seem better with a slow 2H, until you realize that it will either not proc or the proc will be an overkill.
